Private Sailing Catamaran Cancun
Riviera Maya Sailing Charter — Your Boat, Your Bar, Your Pace
From $1,050/group · Open bar & food included · Dock fee $20/person extra · Up to 12 guests included · Max 18 guests
The private catamaran Cancun experience puts a 36ft sailing catamaran exclusively at your group's disposal — no shared decks, no strangers, no fixed group itinerary. The Blue Compass Double Trouble departs from Puerto Aventuras Marina on the Riviera Maya coast, and for the duration of your charter, the boat, the crew, the bar, and the route are entirely yours. For all sailing and water-based options, see our sailing and island tours.
Choose from five duration options to match your group's intentions: a 3-hour sunset sail for couples and honeymooners, a 4-hour snorkel and sail for families and groups who want time in the water, or a 5 to 8-hour full experience with multiple snorkel stops, a full gourmet spread, and the complete open bar menu. Every option includes a professional two-person crew — captain and host — who handle everything from sail to bar.
⚠️ Dock fee: $20 USD per person (not included)
The marina charges a $20 USD dock fee per person, payable on arrival. This applies to all guests aged 6 and above. Children 0–5 sail free. We always inform guests of this in advance — no surprises on the day.
The open bar is genuinely premium — Don Julio Reposado, Grey Goose, Havana 7, Johnnie Walker Black Label, plus beer, soft drinks, and juices throughout. Food escalates with duration: the 4-hour includes ceviche and baguettes; the 5-hour adds a caprese salad and beef, chicken, and shrimp skewers; the 8-hour delivers a full gourmet spread with hummus, quesadillas, and a surprise dessert.
Blue Compass Private Charters is a family-owned operation with over 10 years of experience in the Riviera Maya boating industry, with roots in luxury megayacht operations. The Seawind 36ft Double Trouble departs year-round from Puerto Aventuras Marina in Quintana Roo — 30 minutes south of Playa del Carmen on the Caribbean coast.
Sunset Sailing & Romantic Dinner at Sea
The 3-hour charter offers a dedicated sunset departure from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM — the most popular format for couples, honeymooners, and anyone celebrating on the water. The Riviera Maya coast faces west, which means the sunset view is directly off the bow as you return to Puerto Aventuras Marina.
The Romantic Dinner at Sea — from $750 upgrades any 3-hour charter with a 3-course private dinner served onboard:
- • Starter: Caprese salad
- • Main: Beef medallions with mashed potatoes & sautéed vegetables
- • Dessert: Warm brownie with vanilla ice cream & berry coulis
The premium open bar for the Romantic Dinner includes:
- • Red and white wine
- • Tequila: Tradicional, Don Julio Reposado
- • Vodka: Absolut, Grey Goose
- • Rum: Bacardi Blanco, Havana 7
- • Whiskey: Red Label, Black Label
- • Gin: Diega · Mezcal: 400 Conejos
- • Soft drinks, juices, Mexican beer, water
Towels and Bluetooth music are included. The dinner is timed to coincide with the sunset — coordinated by the captain based on conditions that day. Requires 48 hours advance notice to prepare.

What Makes This Charter Different
Entirely Private — Your Group Only
The Double Trouble catamaran is chartered exclusively for your group — maximum 12 guests, no shared bookings, no strangers added to your party. Every large shared catamaran tour in Cancun loads 40 to 60 people onto a party boat with a fixed schedule and a crowd. This is the opposite: one group, one crew, one itinerary shaped around what your group actually wants to do. If you want to anchor longer at Yanten Bay, you anchor longer. If you want a second drink before the snorkel stop, the bar is yours.
Sunset Sailing — Caribbean Coast at Golden Hour
The 3-hour PM charter departs between 3:00 and 5:00 PM, timing the return for the Caribbean sunset. Sailing along the Riviera Maya coast as the light turns gold and the open bar is flowing is the experience that honeymooners, anniversaries, and couples specifically seek out in Cancun. It is also the shortest and most affordable option — making it accessible for groups who want a premium sailing experience without a full day commitment. The crew sets the pace, the bartender keeps the glasses full, and the coast does the rest.
Yanten Bay — Clear Water Snorkeling
Yanten Bay is a protected anchorage along the Riviera Maya coast with calm, clear water ideal for snorkeling — reef fish, sea fans, and occasional sea turtles in a relaxed, non-commercial setting. It is the primary snorkel stop on the 4-hour and longer charters, with the 6-hour adding a second stop at Xpu-Ha or the Bocana. Snorkel equipment is included for all guests. The 5-hour option at Yanten Bay gives enough time to snorkel, swim, eat on deck, and relax before the return sail.
Premium Open Bar — Don Julio, Grey Goose, Havana 7
The Blue Compass bar is genuinely premium: Don Julio Reposado tequila, Grey Goose vodka, Havana 7 aged rum, Bacardi Blanco, Johnnie Walker Red and Black Label whisky, Absolut vodka, Mexican beer, fresh juices, and soft drinks. All served by the crew throughout the duration of your charter — no additional charge, no drink limit. The bar is part of what Blue Compass is known for, and the quality of the spirits selection is consistently mentioned in reviews as a genuine differentiator from cheaper shared tours.
Gourmet Food — Scales With Duration
Food on the Double Trouble escalates with your chosen charter length. The 3-hour includes a fruit plate with guacamole and chips. By the 5-hour you have ceviche, caprese salad, and beef, chicken, and shrimp skewers. The 8-hour full-day spread adds flour quesadillas, hummus and pita, healthy snacks, and a surprise dessert. All food is prepared fresh on board by the crew. This is gourmet boat food — not the sad crackers and cheese of most charter boats.
Your Music, Your Itinerary
The Double Trouble has a Bluetooth sound system — connect your phone and play your own playlist for the entire charter. Beyond music, the itinerary is genuinely flexible: if you want to extend a stop, add a swim, or adjust timing, the captain works with your group's preferences. The crew's job is to make your day as good as possible, not to follow a script. For groups celebrating something — birthday, bachelor/bachelorette, anniversary, honeymoon — this flexibility makes an enormous difference.

✓ Verified Charter Guest"The Sunset 3-Hour Charter Is Perfect for Couples"
We booked the 3-hour PM charter for our anniversary and the timing was perfect — we departed at 4:00 PM and the sunset caught us on the open water about an hour in. The crew had already topped up our drinks and the light turning gold on the sails and water is exactly what you picture when you imagine a Caribbean sailing experience. Our captain was relaxed and clearly loved what he did. The bartender knew how to make a proper Don Julio margarita. We connected our playlist and had the entire boat to ourselves. At $1,050 split between two people it felt like a bargain for the experience. Already planning the 5-hour for next trip.

✓ Verified Charter Guest"Ten of Us — Per Person Cost Was Ridiculous Value"
Ten people, 5-hour charter, $1,650 total — $165 per person for a private catamaran with an open premium bar and gourmet food. We have done shared catamaran tours in Cancun before where you pay $80 per person to share a boat with 60 strangers and get cheap beer. This was on another level. Yanten Bay snorkeling was calm and clear — our guide Ana pointed out reef fish and a small sea turtle. Then a second stop of our choice. The skewers and ceviche on deck with the open bar going was genuinely one of the best lunches we had in Mexico. The crew were professional, warm, and clearly happy in their work.

✓ Verified Charter Guest"The 8-Hour Full Day Is Worth Every Cent for Families"
Seven of us including three kids (7, 11, 14). The 8-hour charter covered everything: Yalkulito for a calm first snorkel the kids could manage, Xpu-Ha for a more active second stop, then the Bocana for the final hour. My 14-year-old took control of the Bluetooth speaker for most of the day and the crew let her — that small thing made her feel at home on the boat. The full food spread across the day meant no one got hungry or difficult. The dock fee ($20/person, heads up) is worth budgeting for upfront. Captain Miguel was excellent with the kids. Best day of our Mexico holiday.
