Uxmal is a UNESCO World Heritage Maya archaeological site in the Puuc Hills of Yucatan, 80 km south of Merida. Founded approximately 500 CE and reaching its peak between 700–1000 CE, Uxmal was one of the most powerful cities in the northern Yucatan.
It receives roughly 300,000 visitors per year — compared to over 2 million at Chichen Itza — making it one of the most important and least-crowded UNESCO Maya sites in Mexico. The Pyramid of the Magician, at 35 meters, is architecturally unique: oval in base, steep in angle, and decorated in Puuc mosaic stonework.
